How to Connect a E62 to iSync

So I purchased the new Nokia E62 from Cingular Wireless. And the first thing I wanted to do was migrate all of my 170 contacts over to my new telephone from my address book stored on my Macintosh. This was not a easy process whatsoever let me tell you. So I’ve decided to spread the love and write a tutorial that doesn’t suck. God knows the other ones out there are pointless, and will only cause you endless frustration.

  1. Download this file from mactomster
  2. Unzip this file “mt-iSync-Plugin E-Series.zip
  3. Open the ugly looking icon called “mt-iSync-Plugin E-Series” (highlighted in orange)
  4. Open the directory “PhonePlugins
  5. Open a new finder window and open the “go to folder” function
(cmd + shift + g) and copy and past this into the dialog box: /Applications/iSync.app/Contents/PlugIns/ApplePhoneConduit.syncdevice/Contents/PlugIns/
  6. Swap to the other finder window that you opened earlier containing the folder (with the ugly icon and highlighted in orange) named “eseries.phoneplugin
  7. Drag and drop the “eseries.phoneplugin” folder (with the ugly icon and highlighted in orange) into the finder window that you copied and pasted the location code into
  8. Open the folder (with the ugly icon and highlighted in orange) “eseries.phoneplugin” and the click “contents” and then click “resources
  9. You are now in the correct directory to start editing the file titled “MetaClasses.plist“, open this file in a text editor, I use TextMate developed by Macromates
  10. With the file open replace all references of “E61” with “E62” (I use a find and replace all function)
    This is very important!
  11. Again with the file open replace all references of “E61-1” with “E62-2
    This is very important!
  12. Save and close the file
  13. Swap to the finder window that contains the file you just edited, change the file name of this TIFF file from “com.nokia.E61.tiff” to “com.nokia.E62.tiff
    This is very important!
  14. Close all finder windows, and open your “Bluetooth Preferences” and set-up a bluetooth device just as you would with any other device.
  15. Lastly open “iSync” and see if a new icon for your E62 has been placed in iSync’s device window. If not, add the device from the menu and it should (I hope) add the device without any issues

This process is pretty easy once you do it, however there are other tutorials that provided a pretty botched process on making this happen. Its just important that you change every reference of “E61” to “E62

Let me know if anyone has any issues, and I will do my best to help! Enjoy!
